So, to start off, a very close friend of mine was getting married ... uh!.. ok!.. yippee.. I was excited - not about the marriage part - but definitely about watching a Bengali wedding and visiting Kolkata.
So I booked my tickets 2 months in advance. I had tons of work before I left. It was a well deserved vacation of 5 days (too short!.. I know!...but no one can question my commitment to work :P)
As expected the flight was late - by 4 hours. (Why did I wake up by 6'0'clock in the morning. Take a cold shower. Get a cab and rush to the Airport!... and like every other Indian who catches a flight... I knew my flight was going to be late... huh!!!...) Working in a MNC, where everyone's punctual, I forgot that time is cyclic for the rest of India.
Anyway, after the guest relations officer smiled a lot, talked about zero visibility in B'lore, and offered a sandwich and brownie which I had to promptly dispose off in the dustbin, I actually started strolling in the airport. The new airport in Hyderabad is damn good!...You can play hide and seek if you have nothing else to do.
Oh! just reminding you guys things you already know... Dosa costs 200 bucks, a coffee which smells/tastes like tin foil costs another 80 bucks. (I have had quite a few licks at tin foil and trust me!.. I know the taste!)
Finally 4 hours later, my flight arrived and 30 minutes later somebody was sitting in my lap. No!!!! I don't have a baby. But the domestic flight-economy class is so economical on space that the guy in the front seat seems to be in your lap!... Amazing! isn't it!?... Such things can only happen on flights.
Two hours later I land in Kolkata... and wooooooooo!... when did they build the airport.. The rest room gives me the fright of my life!... Don't want to talk about the details - But the restroom was build at least 50 years ago for sure... I don't give a damn if we dint have an airport terminal in kolkata back then, but the restroom has to be at least 50 years.. Another 10 years and we can declare it as one of our important monuments/national assets for its looks and 'one of a kind' make.
I found the pre paid taxi counter as instructed. Got a receipt for 300 bucks, found my taxi in gathering of "bumble bees" (The cabs in kolkata are all ambassadors in yellow with black finishings. I feel like calling them bumble bees)
I reached my friend's place after a 45 minute drive in traffic. Promptly hugged by everyone. Dragged to the table and served with fish curry :) (too late for lunch and too early for dinner.. no idea what to call it) Then , after all the cooing, kissing, laughing, and eating, stumbled to the room assigned to me, took a shower and fell asleep! Fell asleep!.. I came to see Kolkata and I fell asleep like a log.
Will write about the rest of the days tomorrow.. I need to "Fall Asleep" right now :P
